Walkthrough: CSI: NY Episode 4: Hillridge Confidential




notes:

You can skip two mini-games in each scene. There are two lights next to a Skip button on each mini-game that shows the status of skipped games. Skipping games will get you lower ratings at the end.

Click on underlined text in conversations to pursue topics. Completed topics will change colour from pink to white.

Drag items from the inventory to a person to ask questions about them.

Your Credibility depends on which questions and objects (and sometimes which part of a particular object) you choose to ask the suspect about. Your credibility decreases if you ask irrelevant questions.

You can only save in one slot you when exit the game.

This game is lucid and reasonable enough to finish without any hints if you’re an experienced adventure / puzzle / HOG gamer.


walkthrough:

You play as Detective Mac Taylor. The game starts with a murder of an unknown girl on a live web-cam.


Scene 1: Crime Lab

Click the top right monitor: Webcam Comparison

Mini-game: Manhattan Skyline

Solution:
The victim's web-cam shot is on the left. Drag the three sliders on the monitor to match the image on the right to that on the left. First set the topmost slider using the tall, pointed building; then the middle slider using the dark buildings in front of the tall, pointed building, and finally the lowermost.

Scene 2: Beth's Bedroom, Red Brick Condos

Solution:
Use the UV light to find 5 abnormalities with the bedsheet.

Talk to Tom King, the doorman:

1. 'was cool': Beth was bullied in school because of her blog.
2. 'doorman': Tom was napping between 3.30 - 4 pm (the murder time).
3. 'out of the country': Her parents are usually on the road.
4. 'right school': Beth went to Hillridge High, a prep school.
5. 'that uniform': Tom says Beth looked hot in uniform; she was 18.

Show Tom the fire escape plans: He says 'BW' was her boyfriend.

Exit the conversation.


Scene 3: Crime Lab

Click the bottom right monitor: Bullet Trajectory Analysis

Mini-game: Angled Shots

Solution:
The shooter and the gun height have to be set so the bullet hits both the targets - Beth and the computer. The shooter can be moved around the squares, and the shooting height can be set at three levels. Click the 'Test' button at bottom right to test each setting. This is a trial and error process.

Mini-game: Blog Boggler

Solution:
Find the names of the items silhouetted in the inventory in the text of the blog. Click on the links in pink on the right to navigate between different pages (listed from top to bottom).

Page 2: Baby (line 2), carriage (line 9)

Scene 4: Headmaster Jennings' Office, Hillridge Prep

Cycle Race Flyer, Torn Papers, Key, File Cabinet, Letter

Mini-game: Paper Puzzle

Solution:
The torn papers have to be reassembled. Click on two squares one after the other to swap them, till the document is whole again. The blocks become white when they are placed correctly. Start with the top line - the title of the documents. Then get the bottom line, then the left side, then the right, and finally, the middle portions. Use the various texts to guide you.

Someone was supposed to meet Jennings at 3:45.

Talk to Jennings:

1. 'Shugdaddy': Jennings is the 'Shugdaddy' from Beth's blog.

Show Jennings the cycle race flyer: He was at a race meeting at 3:45.

Show Jennings the letter: He says they asked Beth to shut her scandalous blog down.

Show Jennings the fire escape plans: He says the handwriting is of Jack Cooper.

Show Jennings the bedsheet: He offers his DNA to prove his innocence.

Exit the conversation.


Scene 5: Living Room, Coopers' Condo, Red Brick Condos

Mini-game: The Gun Case

Solution:
The drums of the dragon lock have to be rotated by clicking till the dragon image is complete to open the case.

Talk To Jill Cooper:

1. 'school sucks': She's ragged as school because of Beth's blog.
2. 'nasty rumours': Beth outed her gay brother Jack.
3. 'boyfriend': She's dating Beth's ex but he's at boarding school.
4. 'is dead': She's relieved that Beth's dead and her blog is over.

Show Jill the gun: It's her father's. She hates guns.

Show Jill the fire escape plans: They use the plans as scratch pads.

Show Jill the gloves: She says they belong to Jennings.

Exit the conversation.

Talk To Jack Cooper:

1. 'liked Beth': He was good friends with Beth and admired her.
2. 'her blog': He's glad Beth outed him since he didn't have the courage.
3. 'into hysterics': He says Jill likes attention but isn't evil.

Show Jack the gun: His father bought it in Hong Kong.

Show Jack the gloves: He says they are his team gloves.

Show Jack the bedsheet: He says she was dating an older guy.

Exit the conversation.


Scene 6: Crime Lab

Click the bottom right monitor: DNA Analysis

Mini-game: Between The Sheets

Solution:
Click the tweezers to grab and drag the DNA swirling in the centre to their boxes on the sides till one DNA is left.

The DNA belongs to Tom King, the doorman.

Click the top right monitor: Fingerprint Analysis

Mini-game: Door Handle Print

Solution:
Drag the correct fingerprint fragments from the right to the sample on the left to reconstruct the print.

Scene 7: Interrogation Of Tom King

Talk To Tom King:

1. 'protect myself': He has a gun, but he didn't kill Beth.
2. 'looking for stuff': He's looking for evidence the cops missed.
3. 'not being at the post': He was sleeping with someone other than Beth.

Show Tom the fingerprint: He says he fixed her balcony door recently.

Show Tom the bedsheet: He says he made a videotape with Beth and was looking for it in her room after the murder.

Show Tom the rap sheet: Beth was 18 and everything was consensual.

Show Tom the gun: He's never seen it before.

Exit the conversation.


Scene 8: Beth's Bedroom, Red Brick Condos

Solution:
The bears have to be clicked in the right order to reveal the tape. Hint: Start with the brown-nosed bear. He's looking down.

Click the three extra alphabets in each word to reveal the actual email content.

Click the 5 scenes to swap them into the correct sequence of events, then click 'confirm'.

Jill was sleeping with Tom to take revenge on Beth, but neither could have killed her as per the tape.

Mini-game: Bullet Striations Match

Solution:
Drag the bullet fragments from the right to reconstruct the bullet on the left.

Click the bottom left monitor again: Tyre Tread Analysis

Mini-game: Tyred!

Solution:
Match the tread marks on the right to the tyre on the left.

Mini-game: Match The Blogs

Solution:
Match the pairs of blogs till the odd one is left behind.

The last blog was posted at 6.05 pm, much after Beth died.

Beth did the webcam posts while Jack did the text posts on the blog.


Scene 10: Living Room, Coopers' Condo, Red Brick Condos

Talk to Jack Cooper:

1. 'Shugdaddy': He says the stuff about Jennings was made up by Beth.
2. 'Jillousy': She outed him to their parents, so he messed with her.
3. 'gaybro': He outed himself using Beth as a front.
4. 'Nucrush': Beth dated Tom when Jill was dating her ex.

Show Jack the tyre treads: He says most race teams, including his, use the same tyres.

Show Jack the email trail: He was blackmailing Jennings, not Beth.

Show Jack the gun: He was at the race meeting and got back at 6 pm.

Show Jack the blog post: He admits to using Beth's computer remotely.

Exit the conversation.


Scene 11: Headmaster Jennings' Office, Hillridge Prep

Mini-game: Cracking Jennings' Password

Solution:
Click to rotate the triangular segments till the image is complete. Hint: Use the background design to match all the side tiles, then build the crest from bottom up.

The email gives Jennings the motive: the protect his secret by removing Beth, and the opportunity to steal the gun using Jack's condo keys.

Solution:
Use the magnifying glass to find 5 gunpowder traces on Jennings' gloves.

Mini-game: Gunpowder Match

Solution:
Match the graph fragments on the right to the big graph.

The gunpowder residue on the gun matches the murder weapon.


Scene 13: Interrogation Of Headmaster Jennings

Talk to Jennings:

1. 'with Beth': He wasn't sleeping with Beth.

Show Jennings the gloves: He doesn't know how the traces got there.

Show Jennings the tyre tread: He says they are common tyres.

Show Jennings the email: He says the affair with Jack was a huge mistake, and that Beth was revealing the details of the affair step by step on the blog even though he had broken up with Jack.

Show Jennings the blog posting: He didn't know it was Jack.

Show Jennings the race flyer: He didn't reach the meet till 4:15 so he had time to kill Beth.

Exit the conversation.

Another case closed!
