Walkthrough: Randal's Monday



NOTES

- This is a very long, non-linear game that I played over many days.

- If there are inaccuracies, please let me know in the comments.

- The game is stable and I experienced no crashes / bugs.

- Use Shift+Esc key to bring up the Main Menu during scenes.

- There are 7 chapters. Complete trigger activities to progress to the next chapter.

- The game is not linear and you can do MANY activities in a different order than I have noted.

- The cursor turns yellow over hotspots.

- Space-bar reveals all hotspots.

- Right-clicking a hotspot brings up the interaction menu.

- Left click performs actions.

- The inventory icon is present at bottom left.

- Click the inventory icon / roll the mouse wheel to open the inventory.

- Objects in the inventory can be combined with each other.

- To use an inventory object:
-- Left click to select it
-- Left click on a screen hotspot / another inventory object
-- Right click the object to get additional options

- The game is very inconsistent:
-- Randal often refuses to take / do things that he may agree to do later
-- Inventory objects are NOT ALWAYS removed after use
-- There is a lot of backtracking
-- If you are stuck, talk to everyone again
-- Sometimes areas where there is no work are cordoned off, but not always

- Pay attention to dialogues as they sometimes contain clues to the next activity.

- Left-clicking a dialogue skips it (most of the time).

- No conversation choice is fatal, but you may have to repeat long sequences for wrong answers.

- Double click exits to leave a scene instantly.

- Randal travels by the Subway (a map).

- When you want to leave a location, go to the nearest Subway Station.

- Save occassionally. There is no auto-save.

- There is a built-in walkthrough, but that can only be read sequentially.



WALKTHROUGH


DAY 1: A BOX FULL OF JUNK AND TOO MUCH FREE TIME


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

INVENTORY: Oily pages, Matt's wallet, tuna sandwich leftovers.

GO TO the living room.

TAKE the newspaper.

TAKE the broom by the bookshelf.

TAKE the TV remote from the couch.

ENTER the bathroom.

TAKE the duck-hanger.

INVENTORY: Use the duck-hanger with the broom to get extendible duck hanger + wire.

INVENTORY: Look at Matt's wallet to get the ring + cash.

INVENTORY: Look at the TV remote to get two batteries.

EXIT the apartment.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: HALLWAY

TALK to Mr Marconi.

Randal needs to pay his rent.

RETURN automatically to the apartment.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

TALK to Mortimer (the right side door).

GO to Randal's bedroom.

EXIT through the window / fire escape.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: OUTSIDE

GO DOWN the fire escape.

INVENTORY: Use the extendible duck-hanger with the hook of the cat's ladder.

GO DOWN the fire escape.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: OUTSIDE: ALLEY

TAKE the tube of glue from the dumpster at the back.

TALK to the bum till he gives Randal a rusty razor blade.

EXIT to the street.

WALK RIGHT to the Subway.


THREEPWOOD STATION: TICKET COUNTER

WALK to the ticket counter. TALK to Betty.

ENDURE the maddening sequence.

Randal needs to distract Betty so he can jump over the turnstiles.

INVENTORY: Use the rusty blade with the cap of the tube of glue.

The tube of glue is now open.

PUSH the earpiece off the phone.

INVENTORY: Once Betty reaches for the earpiece, use the tube of glue with the phone.

WALK LEFT to the intercom beside the ticket kiosk.

USE the intercom.

TAKE the dried-out marker from the other window.

WALK RIGHT to the turnstiles. USE a turnstile.


THREEPWOOD STATION: MURRAY'S OFFICE

Randal needs to find a way to escape.

TAKE the Mini-Murray off the globe.

NOTE the pin at the base of the globe.

INVENTORY: Use the oily paper with the pin when the room is not shaking.

TAKE the pin.


THREEPWOOD STATION: TICKET COUNTER

TALK to Betty. A subway pass / Metro card is added to the inventory.

WALK right to the platforms.

On the Subway Map, choose Emerson Express.


EMERSON EXPRESS: OUTSIDE

TAKE a traffic cone.

TAKE the rotten lemon from the pipe by Mel's Pawnshop door.

ENTER Emerson Express office.


EMERSON EXPRESS: INSIDE

TALK to Phil.

EXIT the office.


EMERSON EXPRESS: OUTSIDE

TAKE the radio.

INVENTORY: Look at the radio.

A nut and a spring are added to the inventory.

WALK LEFT to Mel's pawn shop.


MEL'S PAWN SHOP: INSIDE

TALK to Mel.

Randal needs to get some junk to sell to him.

EXIT the shop. GO to the Subway.

GO to Randal's apartment.


RANDAL'S HALLWAY

Marconi the landlord is still there.

Randal has to find a way to distract him.

EXIT to the street.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: OUTSIDE

WALK RIGHT to the dejected salesman.

TALK to him till Randal offers to talk to Marconi about the Wonder-Matic.

TALK to Marconi on the cellphone: "Are you still in the hallway?"

GIVE the cellphone to the salesman.

WALK LEFT and enter the building.

Marconi is on the phone.

ENTER the apartment.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT

GO to the bedroom.

TAKE the box of junk by the door.

EXIT to the street.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: OUTSIDE

TALK to the not-so-dejected-anymore salesman.

A hammer is added to the inventory.

EXIT to the Subway. GO to Mel's pawn shop.


MEL'S PAWN SHOP: INSIDE

INVENTORY: Give the box of junk to Mel.

Go over each item, then TALK to Mel.

GO through the cutscene.

Randal automatically sells the ring.

A wad of cash is added to the inventory.

EXIT the store.


MEL'S PAWN SHOP: OUTSIDE

Listen to the phone call from Sally.

GO to Matt's apartment.


MATT'S APARTMENT: OUTSIDE

Randal cannot enter till Murray is distracted.

TALK to the hot dog vendor.

The empty gas cylinder and a receipt is added to the inventory.

EXIT to Mel's pawn shop.


MEL'S PAWN SHOP: INSIDE

Mel and the thief are in deep conversation.

Randal needs to set the time.

INVENTORY: Use the pin with the nut to get a modified pin.

INVENTORY: Use the modified pin with the cuckoo clock on the shelf at top left.

INVENTORY: Give the receipt to Mel.

TAKE the full cylinder from the shelf at top left.

EXIT the store. RETURN to Matt's apartment.


MATT'S APARTMENT: OUTSIDE

TALK to Murray. Randal cannot get past the barricade.

Randal needs to prove to Murray that he knows Matt.

During Randal's monologue, the camera pans right to the Convention Centre.

INVENTORY: Give Matt's wallet to Murray.


MATT'S HALLWAY

TAKE the fire extinguisher.

ENTER Matt's place.


MATT'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

TALK to Sally.

ENTER the kitchen. TALK to Sergeant Kramer.

READ the suicide note on the fridge.

TALK to Kramer.

EXIT automatically to outside Randal's apartment.

ENTER the building. GO to Randal's apartment.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

GO to the bedroom.

Randal goes to sleep automatically.



DAY 2: EXCUSE ME, AM I TRAPPED IN TIME ALREADY?


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

GO to the living room.

TAKE the newspaper.

OPEN the door. TALK to Marconi.

Automatically give the rent to Marconi.

EXIT to the street.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: OUTSIDE: ALLEY

TALK to the businessbum. "Why do you say I am cursed…"

Clayton's Cave is added to the map.

EXIT to the Subway. GO to Matt's apartment.


MATT'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

TALK to Sally.

ENTER the kitchen. TALK to Sergeant Kramer.

READ the suicide note on the fridge.

TALK to Kramer.

EXIT to the Subway. GO to Clayton's Cave.


CLAYTON'S CAVE: INSIDE

Try to take the cue ball on the pool table.

TALK to Father Roy.

Randal needs to get Father Roy a Mai Tai Iced Tea.

TAKE the bowl with corn in it from the table in the middle of the room.

TALK to Elaine.

Ask for the Mai Tai Iced Tea. Say it's for Father Roy.

The Mai Tai Iced Tea is added to the inventory.

WALK LEFT to Father Roy.

INVENTORY: Give Mai Tai Iced Tea to Father Roy.

He does not like it.

INVENTORY: Use the rotten lemon with the Iced Tea.

INVENTORY: Use the rusty razor blade with the Iced Tea.

INVENTORY: Use the batteries with the Iced Tea.

The Mai Tai is STILL not ready.

RETURN to Elaine. Ask about non-alcoholic liqueurs.

TRY all 12 liqueurs.

TALK to Elaine.

GO UP the stairs to the restroom.

Once back downstairs, badger Elaine about cleaning up the bathroom.

Take the trash bag.

EXIT to the alley via the fire exit.


CLAYTON'S CAVE: OUTSIDE: ALLEY

INVENTORY: Use the trash bag with the dumpster by the wall.

Ooops!

TALK to the businessbum.

RETURN to the bar.


CLAYTON'S CAVE: INSIDE

GO UP to the bathroom.

TAKE Elaine's make-up kit from the counter at left.

EXIT to the bar. EXIT to the Subway.

GO to Emerson's Express.


EMERSON'S EXPRESS: INSIDE

TALK to Phil.

Automatically exit to the street.

Randal wants the tapes of the previous night.

GO to Mel's pawn shop.


MEL'S PAWN SHOP: INSIDE

TALK to Mel about the ring. He has sold it already.

Randal needs to look at the sales register.

Once Mel and the thief start talking, TAKE the glass beaker / flask from the shelf at top left.

EXIT the store. GO to Randal's apartment.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: TERRACE

TAKE the stairs beside the elevator up to the terrace.

Randal needs to get past the hungry pigeons.

INVENTORY: Use the bowl with corn with the pigeons.

Randal needs to find a way to (re)move the pigeons.

EXIT the terrace. GO to Randal's apartment.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

Go to the bathroom.

INVENTORY: Use the flask with the faucet.

Now the flask is full of water.

(You can also fill the flask in Matt's Kitchen or at the water cooler at Emerson's courier).

EXIT the apartment. GO to Matt's apartment.


MATT'S APARTMENT: HALLWAY

Try to enter Matt's apartment.

The neighbour lady will talk to Randal.

ENTER Matt's apartment.


MATT'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

GO into the kitchen.

TAKE the matches from the counter at left.

OPEN the cupboard by the window.

TAKE the rat poison.

INSPECT the cup. It still has Matt's booze in it.

INVENTORY: Use the dried out marker with the booze.

The marker is working now.

EXIT Matt's apartment. GO to Mel's pawn shop.


MEL'S PAWN SHOP: INSIDE

INVENTORY: Use the bowl with corn with the base over the burner / cylinder.

INVENTORY: Use the matches with the cylinder.

TAKE the bowl with popcorn.

INVENTORY: Use the rat poison with the bowl with popcorn.

EXIT Mel's shop. RETURN to Randal's terrace.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: TERRACE

INVENTORY: Use the poisoned bowl of popcorn with the pigeons.

TAKE the beer bong at left.

The hose and the funnel are added to the inventory.

EXIT the terrace. GO to Mel's pawn shop.


MEL'S PAWN SHOP: INSIDE

INVENTORY: Use the flask with water with the burner / cylinder.

INVENTORY: Use the hose with the boiling water in the flask.

CONNECT the free end of the hose to the hole on the side of the clock.

Randal needs some ammunition for the cannon.

GO to Clayton's.


CLAYTON'S CAVE: INSIDE

INVENTORY: Use the rat poison with the improved Mai Tai Iced Tea.

Father Roy drinks it.

TAKE the cue ball.

EXIT Clayton's Cave. GO to Mel's pawn shop.


MEL'S PAWN SHOP: INSIDE

INVENTORY: Use the cue ball with the clock's cannon.

CHECK the sales register.

'Charlie' has bought the ring.

Charlie's Comics is added to the map.

EXIT Mel's shop. GO to Charlie's Comics.


CHARLIE'S COMICS: INSIDE

TALK to Charlie. He is not willing to part with the ring.

Charlie recommends that Randal see a psychiatrist, Dr Johnson.

WALK right to the end of the room.

NOTE the locked case with the Super Hot Chick catalogue inside.

Randal needs to find a way to unlock that case.

INVENTORY: Use the hammer with the spring.

The squashed spring still needs something to pick the case lock.

EXIT the store. GO to Matt's apartment.


MATT'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

GO to the kitchen.

INVENTORY: Use the bent wire hanger with the blender.

A twisted wire is added to the inventory.

INVENTORY: Use the twisted wire with the squashed spring to make a lockpick.

EXIT Matt's apartment. GO to Charlie Comics.


CHARLIE'S COMICS: INSIDE

Randal needs Charlie gone before he unlocks to catalogue case.

WALK to Charlie's counter.

INVENTORY: Use the tuna sandwich leftovers with Charlie's soft drink glass.

The soft drink glass and the straw are added to the inventory.

INVENTORY: Use the marker to change the date on the Sci Fi Con poster to Monday.

WALK LEFT to the catalogue.

INVENTORY: Use the homemade lockpick with the lock.

HAL 9000 wants Charlie's DNA and fingerprint sample.

INVENTORY: Use the straw with the HAL DNA verifier panel.

DNA sample is verified.

Randal needs a way to lift Charlie's fingerprint off the glass.

INVENTORY: Use Elaine's make-up kit with the glass.

Charlie's fingerprint is now visible on the glass.

EXIT the store. LOOK at the wall of the store.

READ the note.

TAKE the scotch tape off the wall.

INVENTORY: Use the scotch tape with the fingerprint on Charlie's glass.

ENTER the store.

INVENTORY: Use the scotch tape with fingerprint with HAL's fingerprint panel.

The catalogue case is now open.

TAKE the Super Hot Chick catalogue.

Uh-oh.

REPLACE the catalogue on the base.

INVENTORY: Use the hammer with the HAL panel.

Take the catalogue.

EXIT the store.



DAY 3: MORTIMER'S DUNGEON


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

TAKE the newspaper by the front door.

TALK to Mr Marconi - now Mr McConi.

EXIT automatically to the street.

Koalas everywhere!


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: OUTSIDE: ALLEY

TALK to the businessbum.

EXIT to the street. GO to the Subway.

GO to Dr Johnson's psychiatric office.


DR JOHNSON'S OFFICE: RECEPTION

TALK to the receptionist.

Randal needs to arrange an appointment for THAT day.

TALK to Robert.

USE the music dial on the right wall.

TALK to Alan.

EXIT the office. GO to Matt's apartment.


MATT'S APARTMENT: OUTSIDE

TALK to Sergeant Kramer.

GO automatically into the apartment.


MATT'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

TALK to Sally.

GO to the kitchen.

TALK to Sergeant till he leaves.

TAKE the beers from the kitchen counter.

READ the suicide note on the fridge.

NOTE that the stalactite is as hard as diamond.

EXIT the kitchen.

TALK to Ned and Ted.

INVENTORY: Use the beer bottles with Ned and Ted.

Randal needs to find a way to open the beers.

RETURN to the kitchen.

INVENTORY: Use the beer bottles with Frozen Matt.

EXIT the kitchen.

INVENTORY: Use the opened beers with Ned and Ted.

TAKE the air freshener from the shelf by the window.

RETURN to the kitchen.

INVENTORY: Use the matches with the air freshener can.

TAKE the broken air freshener can.

INVENTORY: Use the broken air freshener car with middle drawer.

INVENTORY: Use the matches with the air freshener can.

The fork is added to the inventory.

NOTE that the stalactite has cracked.

INVENTORY: Use the extendible duck hanger with the cracked stalactite.

The stalactite tip is added to the inventory.

INVENTORY: Use the stalactite tip with the kitchen window glass.

TALK to Jay and Silent Bob.

WALK right to the Convention Centre.

TALK to Murray.

Randal needs a legitimate way to get past Murray.

TALK to Phil.

INVENTORY: Use Super Hot Chick catalogue with Phil.

The delivery package and delivery note are added to the inventory.

EXIT the office. GO to the Subway.

GO to the Convention Centre.


SCI FI CONVENTION CENTRE: OUTSIDE

INVENTORY: Use the delivery note with Murray.

INVENTORY: Right click the package.

A bunch on Sci Fi tee shirts are added to the inventory.

ENTER the Convention Centre.


SCI FI CONVENTION CENTRE: INSIDE

TALK to hot dog vendor, Mel and Mortimer.

NOTE the coffee on the stand of the hot dog vendor.

WALK to the back of the Convention Centre.

TALK to Charlie.

TAKE a Captain Red poster from the left side of Charlie's stand.

Randal needs to make a Captain Red uniform.

INVENTORY: Use a tee shirt with Darth Vader / Space Nerd.

An eucalyptus candy is added to the inventory.

RETURN to the main area.

INVENTORY: Use a tee shirt with the Supernerd at bottom right.

A fishing rod is added to the inventory.

INVENTORY: Use the eucalyptus candy with the fishing rod.

The fishing rod is now with bait (for koalas).

Doc suddenly appears on the scene.

A plutonium rod is added to the inventory.

EXIT automatically to the street.

TALK to Murray.

EXIT to the Subway. GO to Dr Johnson's office.


DR JOHNSON'S OFFICE: RECEPTION

INVENTORY: Use the fork with the music dial hole.

Every time Randal uses the fork, Robert and Alan alternate.

TALK to Robert / Alan about 3 times each to discover:
- Robert had a canary
- Alan version killed that canary and took photos on a cellphone

ASK Robert for his cellphone. Choose option: to check its features.

Robert faints when he finds out that he is Alan.

ENTER Dr Johnson's office when he summons Robert / Alan.


DR JOHNSON'S OFFICE: INSIDE

TALK to Dr Johnson.

Randal is subjected to a Rorschach test.

CHOOSE stupid answers for the test images, like "dogs playing poker".

At one time when Dr Johnson is writing something, take a visiting card.

TALK to Dr Johnson and keep choosing inane answers till he evicts Randal from the office.

EXIT Dr Johnson's office. Go to the Subway.

GO to Randal's apartment.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

INVENTORY: Use Dr Johnson's card with Mortimer's door.

ENTER Mortimer's room.

USE the log in the hearth to start the security system.

OPEN the top left drawer of the desk.

PRESS the green button - the log mechanism is now stuck.

Push back the 3 books in the bookshelf at left:
- Green book - sixth from left - on the bottom shelf
- Blue book - fourth from left - on the bottom shelf
- Red book on middle shelf

PRESS the blue button of the middle shelf.

Push back the 3 books in the bookshelf at left:
- Blue book - fourth from left - on the bottom shelf
- Green book - sixth from left - on the bottom shelf
- Grey book on middle shelf

PRESS the red button of the lowest shelf.

Push back the 4 books in the bookshelf at left:
- Red, grey, brown books on middle shelf
- Yellow book - sixth from right

(I used trial & error / guesswork; not sure of the logic of the puzzle)

TAKE the key from the open panel at the base of the bookshelf.

INVENTORY: Use the key with the large case above the drawer.

The Millennium Falcon miniature is added to the inventory.

EXIT the apartment. Go to the Subway.

GO to the Convention Centre.


SCI FI CONVENTION CENTRE: INSIDE

TALK to Mel. He wants a coffee.

TALK to hot dog vendor, he won't give up his coffee.

GO outside and talk to Murray.

RETURN to the main area.

Mel is gone.

GO to the back of the Convention Centre.

TALK to Mel in the latrine.

RETURN to the main area.

Murray is talking to the hot dog vendor.

INVENTORY: Give the rotten hot dog to Murray.

GO to the back of the Convention Centre.

TALK to Mel in the latrine.

RETURN to the main area.

TAKE the coffee from the abandoned hot dog stand.

GO to the back of the Convention Centre.

INVENTORY: Use the coffee with the latrine.

RETURN automatically to the main area.

TALK to Mel. Choose option: "everything you have"

A lot of money is added to the inventory.

GO to the back of the Convention Centre.

INVENTORY: Use the money with Charlie.

Randal needs to find a proper Captain Red figure.

EXIT to the Subway. GO to Clayton's Cave.


CLAYTON'S CAVE: INSIDE

NOTE the chalk on the pool table.

Randal has to create a diversion to steal the chalk.

WALK right to Elaine. ASK for a cue ball.

A cue ball is added to the inventory.

WALK left to the pool table.

INVENTORY: Use the cue ball with the pool table.

USE a cue stick from the rack with the cue ball.

Randal sucks at pool.

TALK to Father Roy.

USE a cue stick from the rack with the lamp above the table.

TAKE the chalk from the floor.

INVENTORY: Use the chalk with the Murray figure.

EXIT Clayton's Cave. GO to the Subway.

GO to Mel's pawn shop.


MEL'S PAWN SHOP: OUTSIDE

TALK to Bob about the paint.

INVENTORY: Use the Murray figure with the red paint.

INVENTORY: Use the Murray figure with the fixative.

Randal needs to recover the Murray figure from the koala.

INVENTORY: Use the fishing rod + eucalyptus sweet bait with hole in manhole cover.

INVENTORY: Use the hammer with the koala bear *ouch!*

TAKE the koala bear.

TAKE the hammer.

The Murray / Captain Red figurine is added to the inventory.

GO to the Subway. GO to the Convention Centre.


SCI FI CONVENTION CENTRE: INSIDE

GO to the back of the Convention Centre.

INVENTORY: Give the Captain Red figure to Charlie.

The ring is added to the inventory.

EXIT via the Emergency Exit.


SCI FI CONVENTION CENTRE: OUTSIDE: ALLEY

Randal is about to get mugged.

INVENTORY: Use the koala with the goon.



DAY 4: OFFICER HICKS, GIVE ME THAT RING!


SCI FI CONVENTION CENTRE: OUTSIDE: ALLEY

TAKE the duct tape.

TAKE the party blower.

TAKE the newspaper.

TAKE a baseball from the large Sci Fi box.

GO to the Subway. GO to Matt's apartment.


MATT'S APARTMENT: INSIDE

TALK to Matt. Promise to get his ring back.

Randal needs to take the magnet on the table behind Matt.

EXIT to the Subway. GO to Threepwood Street.


RANDAL'S APARTMENT: OUTSIDE

TALK to the classy nerd about the 9mm.

Randal needs to get him a silencer.

INVENTORY: Use the duct tape with the funnel to make a silencer.

INVENTORY: Give the homemade silencer to classy nerd.

TAKE the star screwdriver dropped by the worker (Bob) on the scaffolding.

EXIT to the Subway.


THREEPWOOD STREET SUBWAY STATION

TALK to the snotty kid till his water gun runs out.

Randal has to get the kid a better gun - or candy.

EXIT to the platform. GO to Charlie's Comics.


CHARLIE'S COMICS: OUTSIDE

TALK to Darth Vader. He can fix anything.

INVENTORY: Give the broken radio to Darth Vader.

Randal needs to get him a soldering iron, some tin and a flat-head screwdriver.

ENTER Charlie's Comics.


CHARLIE'S COMICS: INSIDE

TALK to HAL till he starts his three questions.

(I know some of the answers... and wrong answers to avoid.)

1. If Leia invites Luke, Han, Chewie and Wedge to a party, who gets there first? Leia
2. Admiral Ackbar looks like a fish… who is the ugliest being in the galaxy? (?)
3. If Luke's lightsaber broken down during brunch, who would fix it? (Not Obi-Wan)
4. If Leia ate a tauntaun… who would put on more weight? Leia
5. If Han suffers from blindness and punches… who should pilot the Millennium Falcon? (Not Chewie)
6. If Luke never completed his training to become a Jedi, who is the new 'real hope'? Leia
7. If the X-wing is whatever… which is the best for space tourism? The X Wing
8. If Jar Jar deserves a painful death, who should kill him? (Not me)

  1. SO MANY parts are just straight up wrong. OK guide overall, maybe 4/10 for accuracy though. Incredibly frustrating during puzzles that you clearly don't have the answers for.

    1. The first sentence of this article says: This is a very long, non-linear game. So obviously, you will not have the exact route as me and YOUR game will depend on YOUR choices. If you have any specific corrections to state, let me know. I could solve the game playing in the given sequence.

  2. I got the nail gun but Randall won't give it to the stupid kid, he keeps saying "He's not on my list" what the hell does that mean? Does anyone know what to do?
